Graduated as a Biologist from the University of Bologna in 1990, Spartaco started being involved as a researcher at the “Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche” (National Research Council – CNR) in 1994. Since then, he focused his research on basic cell biology, with a specific interest in defining new advanced microscopy technological approaches that can be adopted in the field of neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases.
His experience over the years, allowed him to improve the development and use of imaging techniques. Among those, he worked on TIRF microscopy integrated with confocal resonant, Time-Lapse, and Lightsheet as well as optical super-resolution methods combined to transmission electron microscopy.
Spartaco Santi keeps moving forward with his research and, at the same time, he teaches several courses dedicated to applications of advanced optical microscopy. He also covers the position of Head of the Digital Microscopy Center at the Rizzoli Orthopaedics Institute.
